Employers in the District of Columbia must conform with these state rules regarding the treatment of tips received by employees.
The minimum wage for employees receiving tips is $2.77 per hour, provided that the employees receive gratuities in an amount at least equal to the difference between the hourly wage paid and the state's minimum wage.
The tip credit does not apply to a tipped employee unless the employee has been informed of the tip credit provisions by the employer, and the employee retains all tips received.
Tip pooling, however, is permitted.
